Executive summary: Annual Report 2016 on the situation of labor and trade union rights, equality and non-discrimination in Palestine
Labor rights are among the most prominent human rights guaranteed by international conventions and treaties. In addition, there is a great number of international labor conventions that specifically deal with workers and their rights. These rights were also guaranteed by the Palestinian basic law, as well as the Palestinian labor law no 7 of the year 2000 and its by-laws. However, despite the existence of laws that should provide various forms of protection, many workers are still deprived of their rights guaranteed by international and domestic law.
This report addresses violations of labor and trade union rights in Palestine during the year 2016, and was based on data provided by a sample of organizations representing the public, private and civil society sectors.
The report was produced by the Democracy and Workers’ Rights Center with the assistance of the European union, Prepared by the researcher Adv. Bilal Barghouthi. In the report, the researcher reviews encompasses violations of workers’ rights in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, main violations of the rights of Palestinian workers in the Israeli labor market, identifies the causes of violations, ways to address them and recommendations.
