DWRC calls upon workers and employers to abide by occupational safety and health and public safety standards and guidelines in the workplace
Gaza, 8/04/2020 - The Democracy and Workers’ Rights Center in Palestine calls upon all workers, who have remained at their work posts, to adhere to all the standards and guidelines stipulated by the Labor Law and the Public Health Law regarding public safety and occupational health and safety in workplaces, particularly in light of the COVID-19 outbreak.
DWRC asks workers and employers to take all safety precautions required in the work environment and to apply standards of prevention, particularly in light of the repeated occurrence of work accidents. In the Gaza Strip, such accidents have included a deadly fire that originated in a bakery in Al-Nuseirat commercial area, and more recently, an accident in a school under construction in Khan Younis that led to workers’ injury.
DWRC urges workers to use all protective and personal safety equipment during work, and abide with safety measures. The Center also calls upon employers to put in place all required preventive and safety procedures, organize workplaces according to professional and health standards, and provide occupational safety tools for workers in order to ensure a safe work environment and prevent the occurrence of accidents with disastrous consequences for the lives of workers and citizens.
DWRC believes that everyone, workers and employers, must exert utmost caution to avoid exposing themselves, their families and society to potential contagion by COVID-19. Therefore, all instructions or preventive measures preconized by competent authorities and human rights organizations related to confronting the COVID-19 outbreak should be taken seriously, and applied.
