DWRC welcomes a delegation
from the Representative Office of Denmark in Ramallah at its headquarters office
Ramallah, 30/10/2018 – DWRC’s general director, Hasan Barghouthi, and DWRC staff in Ramallah met today with the Representative Office of Denmark in Ramallah, Mrs. Nathalia Feinberg, as well as Mrs. Cecilie Michaelsen, the head of cooperation at the Representative Office of Denmark in Ramallah and Mr. Khaled Mansour, Program Manager.
This visit took place in the framework of the cooperation between DWRC and the Representative Office of Denmark in Ramallah after the signature of a cooperation agreement through which the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is providing core support to DWRC’s work until the end of 2018.
This support aims to enable DWRC to pursue its strategic objectives of strengthening the representative and bargaining power of trade unions, empowering Palestinian women at the economic, political and social levels, establishing a social protection system, and strengthening its organizational capacity.
During the meeting, Mrs. Nathalia Feinberg indicated that they value their cooperation with DWRC to strengthen human rights in the labor sector. She also stressed that Palestine is among Danemark’s priority countries of intervention. She gave an overview about areas of cooperation between Denmark and Palestine, and the priorities that they work on, which include supporting the municipalities sector and investment in area C, agribusiness and creation of job opportunities in the agricultural sector, especially for women and youth, as well as strengthening human rights and democratic accountability, which is the area under which their support for DWRC falls.
A discussion ensued regarding some main issues affecting human rights in Palestine. Mr. Barghouthi gave an overview of the situation in the Gaza Strip and political challenges to improving it. Some of the obstacles faced by DWRC in defending workers’ rights in Gaza due to the legal framework and socio-economic situation were also addressed. This was followed by a discussion on the social security law implementation and related issues.
