DWRC Conducts Training on Trade Union Intervention in Occupational Safety and Health

Ramallah – 22 April 2026

The Democracy and Workers’ Rights Center conducted a specialized three-day training course entitled “Trade Union Intervention in Occupational Safety and Health,” with the participation of 14 male and female trade unionists representing various sectors.

The training aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge of occupational safety and health concepts and objectives and introduce them to different types of occupational hazards and their short- and long-term effects on workers. It also addressed the roles of the three main parties in the workplace—workers, employers and the responsible authorities—as well as their respective rights and responsibilities.

The course covered occupational safety and health provisions under the Palestinian Labour Law, regulations governing occupational injuries and related compensation, and the decree-law concerning occupational safety and health supervisors and workplace safety and health committees.

The final sessions focused on the role of trade unions in promoting occupational safety and health and emphasized the importance of effective union engagement in this field. Participants also discussed the concepts of decent work and the psychosocial work environment, including their main components and significance.

The training included a range of interactive activities, group work, discussions and participatory exercises that encouraged participants to analyse issues and draw conclusions collectively.

The training was implemented under the “Promoting Workers’ Rights” project by DWRC’s Legal Unit and Culture and Training Unit.
